For us, one of the must-do things when planning a trip to Sri Lanka was to take a train ride in Sri Lanka, especially the train ride between Kandy and Ella. This journey, which everyone enjoyed talking about in all the articles and comments we read, became our first priority as soon as we arrived in Sri Lanka. We bought our tickets online from the 'KLook' travel site and set off. There are three classes you can buy tickets for on these trains. The first class carriages are air-conditioned, so the windows are closed, and it is difficult to pass through the doors. There is no air-conditioning in the second and third class carriages, but there are fans in some places. The windows are open and you can take photos or videos by hanging out of the windows or the doors in between. The only problem is getting the ticket in advance. We were in the first class carriage so we couldn't hang out of the windows but the main doors of the train were open. We were able to hang out of the doors ☺️ We slowly made our way through the wonderful views and reached Ella in 7 hours.

Since Ella is a small town, the train station and the market or the center are quite close to each other. After settling in, we dropped off our bags and went out for dinner. It was already late in the evening, we wanted to find a place where we could eat and drink and relax. Like Ella itself, it has small but enjoyable venues, and the music is nice, I would even say nostalgic. We hung out at The Barn by Starbeans. I definitely recommend it.

We set out immediately after breakfast to visit the Nine Arch Bridge in the morning. The Nine Arch Bridge, one of the best examples of British colonial railway construction, is a viaduct bridge located between Ella and Demodara railway stations. Built with stone and cement blocks without any reinforcement iron or concrete, the bridge is approximately 940 meters above sea level. The bridge, which is a favorite of travelers and photographers, is very busy, especially when trains pass.

If you love hiking, you should go to Ella Rock. The trek ends at Ella Rock, which can be reached in two to three hours, depending on your pace. On the other hand, you can climb Little Adam's Peak for the sunset. The view on both sides of the valley is also breathtaking.

Ella’s Ravana Waterfalls is the ultimate place to take a breather from the heat and enjoy a refreshing dip. The view is breathtaking as you watch the water cascade down the cliff.

The best restaurant in our opinion is The Barn by Starbeans
